Taking a stand against vaping

Wesley College is proudly leading the charge against vaping.

Under the guidance of Mrs Sophie Carroll, Director of Student Wellbeing, and Mr John Taylor, Assistant Head of Senior School (Pastoral), we’ve embarked on a mission to tackle this issue in our Middle and Senior Schools. Focussing on health and community impacts, we’re proud to have launched a new initiative to raise awareness and foster engagement amongst students.

Thanks to the support of the Healthway Healthy Schools Program, a Poster and Campaign awareness program was launched that captured the imagination of students from Years 5 to 12. Over 120 entrants participated in a student-led competition, creating thought-provoking vaping awareness and anti-vaping posters, with the winners displayed in key, high-traffic areas of the College.

A selection panel of staff and community members was engaged to select the prize winners, all made possible by the Healthway grant. Our winning posters have been displayed around the College, including fixed in toilets and digitally captured to be shared on classroom screens, Schoolbox and social media.

What’s more, our open campus policy ensures the powerful anti-vaping messaging extends to the wider community members.

Wesley is committed to increasing awareness of the health impacts vaping has on children and young adults as part of our wider commitment to developing student wellbeing. Following the success of this campaign, the competition will become annual and we will continue ongoing class discussions and activities around awareness of vaping.

At the heart of our educational philosophy lies a commitment to fostering the holistic wellbeing of students. We’re thrilled to announce that Mrs Carroll has been selected as a finalist for a Rising Star Award with the RSE Project, earning just recognition for her dedication and passion for student wellbeing.
