Academic Assistance

Tuesday & Wednesday afternoons from 3:20 – 4:20pm​​ | Fishbowl T.G O’Sullivan

The Homework club provides an opportunity for students to receive additional support and improve their knowledge and skills across the main learning areas (English, Humanities and Social Sciences, Mathematics and Science). All students are encouraged to attend and make use of this supportive environment.

Please collect your child by by 4:20pm.

Monday – Thursday 3.30 – 4.30pm​​​​​  | Senior Studies Centre

After-school help for all students in Years 7-12 is provided from 3.30 -4.30pm, Monday to Thursday in the Senior Studies Centre.

Staff will be available on a rotating basis from Mathematics, English, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences as well as Intervention & Extension to support students working on homework, seeking academic assistance or developing their study skills.

Staff involved in Academic Afternoons are experts in their fields and hold significant roles within the College as Deans, Heads of Learning Area, Professional Practice Lead Teachers, Coordinators, Special Needs Education Assistants, Team Leaders and teachers.

• During the course of the year there will be opportunities for students to access specific sessions to develop study skills, prepare for Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment (OLNA) testing or other identified areas.
• Throughout the year there will also be specialist masterclasses offered to Senior School students during Academic Afternoon sessions to promote personal growth and academic best for students. Sometimes they will focus on learning and study skills whilst at other times on specific courses or skills within courses.

In Terms 1-3, Year 12 students can participate in an evening academic support program, run on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 5.30 – 8.30pm, after co-curricular sport.

This program offers:

• A structured opportunity for focused and deliberate learning in a positive, motivational and supportive environment for students out of hours
• Specific subject support in knowledge, understanding and skills (by tutors)
• Modelling and guidance by experienced Alumni Tutors (old boys who have graduated in the last 2-3 years) who can help students learn their secrets of success
• A chance to learn and practice study skills through study skill development, peer-to-peer (collaborative) learning and individual work

A small cost is associated with this program to cover the provision of tutors and dinner for students. Students participate for the entirety of the term’s program. Currently, 65% of Year 12 cohort studying an ATAR pathway are enrolled in this program.

Year 11 students are able to participate in this program in Term 4.
