Wesley College Wins Best Student Wellbeing Program at the Australian Education Awards 2024

Wesley won the title of Best Student Wellbeing Program at the Australian Education Awards, held last week.

The awards, now in their seventh year, showcase the achievements of the country’s top-performing schools, principals, department heads, and teachers across all states and territories.

Nearly 800 attendees converged at the Star Event Centre in Sydney, including Mrs Sophie Carroll, our Director of Student Wellbeing & Service Learning.

She proudly accepted the award on behalf of the College, saying afterwards: “Student wellbeing really is a core focus for our staff, and their commitment to this program is what helps it flourish. It has been such a joy working with staff across the whole College in developing and refining our Wellbeing Program.

“I am also enormously grateful for the support provided by our partnerships; we are so lucky to have industry experts who co-design programs that are research-driven, but also responsive to our students’ needs. Our program would not be as successful as it is without the support from the teams at SHQ, ySafe, Skodel, Cyber Safety Project and Elevate Education.”

Sophie continued, “A core focus is encouraging student voice and developing youth agency, so regular feedback sessions, open group discussions, as well as an annual wellbeing survey, have helped our pastoral team tailor wellbeing sessions and themes to students’ current needs.

“We want to provide the best possible experience for our students, developing both their academic and their social and emotional skills, so they can flourish in whatever their pursuits are beyond the College gates.

“I am really proud to be a part of a team that is always striving to achieve the very best for the young people in our care, and we know that a unique, well-embedded, sustainable Wellbeing Program will contribute to the future success of our students.”
