Wesley College has been named as an Innovative School by The Educator, the leading Australian resource for senior educational professionals.
The accolade recognises innovative institutions that are pushing the boundaries of traditional education to better equip students for the tomorrow’s world.
“After a difficult assessment, The Educator narrowed down the field to 40 schools that are worthy of special recognition,” said Brett Henebery, The Educator editor. “It must be emphasised, however, that the outstanding work detailed on the following list is only a snapshot of the pioneering efforts being made in schools across the country.”
The Innovative School status reflects our commitment to cutting-edge facilities and ideas, such as the College’s unique Katitjin experience – a unique, term-long experiential education program in Year 8, where students leave the classroom to experience a range of challenging and inspirational environments within the Perth CBD to explore self-awareness, team dynamics and community.
Director of Strategy, Mathew Irving, said: “This award recognises the College’s commitment to its vision to be an innovative learning community where all students are empowered to lead purposeful lives. Be it in the classroom, on the sporting field, playing in an orchestra or building robots, Wesley embodies the concept of innovation in all learning areas.
“The College has had a long-standing commitment to innovation, prototyping, action research and preparing students for an uncertain future. Our work in developing the Wesley seven capabilities, skills for life and an accompanying learning progressions sets us apart in developing meaningful measures of global success.
“We have a proud history of innovation from our flagship Katitjin Program, Long Term Athletic Development Program, Moorditj Mob, Digital and continuous feedback, multi-million dollar refurbishments and the like. All the while being true to our own values of academic success for all.”
