Wesley Breaks ATAR Record!

This week, the ATAR results were released, with Wesley College’s Class of 2022 achieving a median ATAR of 90.1 (the state median is 83.45). This is the highest median ATAR achieved in the College’s history. An exciting statistic as we start our Centenary celebrations.

Head of College, Mr Ross Barron, said: “I am extremely proud of every one of our graduating students. They have chosen a range of pathways, but each of them has given their all. Looking through the spreadsheets of individual results, there are countless examples of students who have exceeded expectations through sheer hard work and commitment.”

He continued: “I would like to once again publicly acknowledge the whole teaching staff, from PK to Year 12, who go above and beyond to get the best from their students. An immeasurable amount of support and mentorship has occurred in the partnership between the boys, families and staff.

“The pathway to success is highly individual. I’m proud to say at Wesley our students are not just a number, but each known for their passions and interests. We are committed to matching students with their right pathway, ensuring their future is bright.”

In 2022, we had some amazing achievements.
• 3 students (3.4% of ATAR candidates) obtained an ATAR 99+ (Top 1% in WA)
• 20 students (22.7% of ATAR candidates) obtained an ATAR 95+ (Top 5% in WA)
• 45 students (51.1% of ATAR candidates) obtained an ATAR 90+ (Top 10% in WA)
• 67 students (76.1% of ATAR candidates) obtained an ATAR 80+ (Top 20% in WA)
• 79 students (89.8% of ATAR candidates) obtained an ATAR 70+ (Top 30% in WA)

Special congratulations to Ethan Kealley, who was one of only 16 students in West Australia to achieve a ‘perfect’ 99.95 ATAR score. What an outstanding result!

Nothing is more important than preparing our young people for successful, meaningful futures. Whether it is university, TAFE, apprenticeship or the workforce. It is at the core of our mission. It is the reason we are here.

With that in mind, a real success story for this year has been the introduction of the UniReady program. This has been an important and deliberate strategy for 20 of our students, who have direct university access available to them through this alternate pathway. In a year where 36% of students in Western Australia attempted a full ATAR course, 61% of Wesley students attempted the same ATAR pathway; combined with the UniReady, 85% of students attempted a direct university pathway.

Naturally, the College is delighted with the 2022 ATAR results, but we have never believed that they tell the full story of a school. Here are some other equally important numbers about our Year 12 students:

• 1,426 hours of community service
• 82 students in formal leadership positions
• 74 students were in 1st sports teams
• $117,000 raised for World’s Greatest Shave, the most raised in Wesley’s history and across Australia.

In addition, our graduates have been part of Wesley NEXT, a ground-breaking new initiative, preparing students for life after school. The Year 12s have contributed to an increase of students participating in music lessons, from 275 students in 2017 to 475 students in 2022. There’s a lot to be proud of!
