Welcoming back our Pioneers

Yesterday we welcomed our Pioneers back to Wesley College. The Pioneers are Old Boys who graduated more than 50 years ago. We were also delighted to welcome the class of 1968 into the fold.

Pioneers’ Day is one of the most important days on the College calendar for both the Old Wesley Collegians’ Association (OWCA) and current students. It was started by the late Eric Saunders (34-35-38) in 1986 and has since grown to be a very special occasion.

The day includes a Chapel service for the Pioneers, a dedicated assembly where the Pioneers and current students enjoy an address from a special speaker and – perhaps everyone’s favourite part – a Pioneers’ Day Luncheon where current students and Old Boys can mingle and talk about how Wesley has changed over the years.

This year, the oldest Pioneer was 101. It’s a real testament to how much a Wesley College education means when you see friends of more than 50 years still returning to the school because of how much they valued their time here.
