Spotlight on: Mr Zachary Baldock

Posted January 28, 2022 in Interviews & Spotlights, Teacher Spotlights By Richard Ryan

Returning to the College in 2021 was Old Collegian, Mr Zachary Baldock (05–12). He joins Wesley as one of our College Psychologists – with a special perspective that comes from having been a Wesley student himself.

What were you doing prior to Wesley?

I joined Wesley in Term 3, 2021. Prior to this, I worked at Senses Australia as a Senior Psychologist providing psychological services to children and adults with a wide variety of disabilities. Within this role, I also practiced as an Advanced Behaviour Support practitioner supervising a multidisciplinary team of Professionals in ‘Positive Behaviour Support,’ a person-centred psychological framework. I previously worked with the Department of Education in 2020 as a School Psychologist, based at Willetton Senior High School. I completed my Master of Psychology (Professional) at Curtin University.

What made you choose to join Wesley?

Early in my career, I recognised that I wanted to work with youth to better their mental health and be able to provide intervention to children in their formative years. Wesley was the perfect choice for me to be able to do this. As I am an Old Wesleyan, I knew I could connect with the students around their experiences. I know what it is like to be within the system and experience difficulty and hardship within the school. Additionally, the community had always held a special place in my heart and I had always hoped to return to give back to the College community.

What are you looking forward to?

I am looking forward to immersing myself in the culture of the College and increasing awareness around mental health. I am excited to motivate the students to be the best version of themselves and encourage them to express their emotions. I love counselling and working one-on-one with people, and I am ready to support all of Wesley’s amazing students in various ways.

Outside of the College, what are your favourite things to do?

I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love to keep fit by going to the gym or playing hockey and indoor beach volleyball. I am also a massive fan of the TV show Survivor, so speak to me about that!
