Mrs Jo Edinger is the Head of Junior School at Wesley College. With a strong family connection to the College, Jo loves her job and it truly shows. The campus is a far more joyous place with her involved.

Why did you become a teacher?

I was fortunate to have had a fantastic schooling experience and I wanted to follow in the footsteps of some of my teachers. My PE teachers were particularly influential and that’s what led me to my initial role as a Physical Education specialist. I enjoyed being outside teaching sport but in my third year of teaching I worked as the Director of a Kindergarten in country Victoria and I discovered the world of early childhood education. I have worked in the early years ever since and I love the opportunity to work with young students. It is the best job in the world!

What’s your favourite teaching memory?

I have lots of happy memories as a teacher – no day is ever the same, there are experiences every day that make me laugh and it is very special to watch students graduate in Year 12 after you know you helped them learn to read, write and count in their early years of schooling. It is always a joy when a student I have previously taught says ‘hello’, gives me a wave or shares a hug. I feel a strong sense of pride watching my  students grow into capable young men and women.

Why Wesley?

There is something very special about Wesley that is difficult to put into words – the people and the strong sense of community make it a great place to be each and every day. I have shared some major life experiences with my colleagues, students and their families at Wesley and I am grateful to be a part of such a caring and supportive community. I also have a strong family connection to Wesley. My husband Richard Edinger (81-85) was educated at Wesley, I was married in the College Chapel, our wedding photos were taken in the rose garden and our son Lachlan (Year 7) is a third generation Wesleyan.
