Spotlight On: Alistair Park

Posted June 4, 2018 in Interviews & Spotlights, Teacher Spotlights By Community Relations

Mr Alistair Park is a Physical Education teacher, Director of Hockey and the 1st XI Hockey coach at Wesley College. He has been at the College for over 11 years.

What inspired you to become a teacher?

I loved to coach but teaching seemed like a much more stable profession that shared so many similarities with coaching. Now, I love seeing my students grow and develop from fresh-faced novices into young men who go out into the community and add value to those around them.

What is different about Wesley?

Sometimes in life it’s easy to get caught up in specialising in a particular area but I think Wesley does a great job of celebrating such a wide breadth of achievement while giving students access to things that many young men wouldn’t even dream of. Wesley really embraces the whole person.

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?

World peace, more time in my life and Wesley to have its own hockey turf on campus.

What is your favourite quote?

‘Go where the ball is going, not where it has been.’
