Old Boys and Katitjin Boys Team Up
Pioneers shared some stories about life around, and on, the Swan River when they were lads.
Some of Wesley's Old Boy Pioneers spent a morning with the Year 8 Katitjin boys at Royal Perth Yacht Club on Friday 17 February. As part of the Katitjin experience, the boys learn about the Swan River and today it was the first day of sailing. It started with some knot tying, rules of the river and then the very important basics of learning to sail.
The Old Boys were also 'old hands' at the art of rope knotting and lent their expertise to a few of the younger ones. Derry Shellabear brought along some photos of the Swan River from the days of his youth, taken from the very spot they were standing. Luckily the weather was perfect, the wind wasn't too strong and everyone returned to land with a lot more knowledge about the river's history and safe water travel.
