Wesley College has three sub-schools:
- a co-educational Junior School (Pre-kindergarten (from 2012) to Year 4)
- boys only Middle School (Year 5 to Year 8)
- boys only Senior School (Year 9 to Year 12)
Each sub-school has a slightly different focus according to the age and individual development of the students.
Junior School provides our students with a strong foundation for learning, with a focus on early literacy and numeracy, thinking skills through our philosophy program, and opportunities in music, drama and sport.
Middle School marks the start of boys only education, where boys are provided with a structured learning environment suited to early adolescent development. The Middle School has been described as a 'nest', with the boys at the centre and staff who are ready to guide students through their triumphs, failures and everyday experiences.
The Senior School is an environment where boys are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, thinking and actions... a place where boys become young men.
Enrolling at Wesley
The main intake years for entry to Wesley College are Pre-kindergarten, Year 5 and Year 7. Demand for places is strong and families are advised to apply several years ahead of expected enrolment. For additional information please visit the Enrolments page.
Katitjin
In their early teens boys are at a complex age. This presents a number of challenges, both exciting and confronting, as students explore the notion of independence and take on greater responsibilties.
'Katitjin' is a Nyoongar term that means 'to listen and to learn'. This reflects the core principles of the program.
The Katitjin program is conducted non-residentially in the Perth CBD, giving students access to Perth city where they complete much of their project based work. The proximity to the College enables students to continue to participate in the majority of their co-curricular programs. Katitjin occupies a full term. Students complete their normal curriculum in the other three terms of the school year.
In 2011 the Katitjin program ran concurrently in Year 9 and Year 8. From 2012 Katitjin is embedded into the Year 8 curriculum, reflecting a natural shift with those boys being older than in previous years and an alignment with Middle schooling curriculum principles.
Additional information about the program is available in the Katitjin brochure.
