At Wesley College we believe boys and girls benefit from learning together in their early years which is why we offer a dynamic and exciting co-educational experience for children from Kindergarten to Year Four.
Research indicates that learning styles and patterns are established in the first 6 years of education. While such fundamental life skills and values are learned and established in these early years it would seem important to provide an environment that mirrors society and the real world. Exposure to behaviours and social opportunities that exist in a Junior School co-education setting provides a richer and varied spectrum of learning habits, thinking and learning practices and different styles and use of language and communication.
Younger students, both boys and girls, possess quite different play styles. Research suggests that exposure to the diverse nature of children in a co-education setting before puberty helps students to be more accepting of differences not only in gender but also race and academic and social differences.
Child wonder, effort and initiative are celebrated in Junior School where a learning and teaching process influenced by the Reggio Emilia philosophy is designed to support and guide students in their formative years of schooling.
To meet the needs of young learners, an educational philosophy based on developmental learning, inclusivity and Christian ethos is delivered by teams of specialised and dedicated teachers. Sharing the collective wisdom of parents and teachers is recognised as an essential element in the development of the whole child; their physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual growth. Open communication is encouraged between home and school, at all times, to map growth in these areas.
