Wesley College was established by the Western Australian Conference of the Methodist Church in 1923 and now operates under the auspices of the Uniting Church in Australia. The management of Wesley is vested in the Wesley College Council, which delegates responsibility for the operation of the College to the Headmaster and his senior staff.

The daily affairs of the College and those aspects that impact most directly upon the lives of the students are managed within three sub-schools:
The co-educational Junior School (Manning House), comprising Kindergarten, Pre-Primary and Years 1 to 4
The boys’ only Middle School comprising Years 5 to 8
The boys’ only Senior School comprising Years 9 to 12
Each sub-school has its own Head of School, a senior and experienced educationalist, who reports directly to the Headmaster. Each sub-school determines how best to meet the differing needs and demands of its student body as it relates to the gender composition and the age groupings and developmental stages of its students. The Values, Mission and Vision of Wesley College, however, ensure that the sub-schools are connected to the one whole school ethos and approach.
The learning and teaching program of the entire College is administered through a vertical academic faculty structure. This ensures curriculum continuity and consistency within a number of policy areas of educational management – assessment, professional development and course design being some examples.
The Heads of Faculty ensure close consultation occurs between teachers at all levels of the College and the use of specialist staff where appropriate in curriculum areas within each of the three sub-schools.
All students belong to a House. There are six Houses in K-8 and eight Houses in Years 9 to 12 (when the two Boarding Houses come into operation). Students will normally remain a member of that House for the duration of their time at Wesley. Some of the Houses were part of the College’s foundation years; others have been created as the College has grown. Each House seeks to develop strong links with the families of its students. Boarders are placed in one of the two boarding houses from Year 9 onwards, while in Year 8 they are placed in a day house to assist with their integration into the College. From Year 5, the House begins to play a vital role in providing support and guidance to a boy as he grows through the College. When he enters Years 11 and 12 he will be presented with a number of opportunities to participate in the management of the House and the College and to exercise leadership of younger students.
